Leave it to Gabriel to dash all my dreams straight out of the gate. He had always been a hardass like that though. A big spanking never ended with anything but a sore butt, and he was all alpha male. Disobeying him on purpose was a surefire way to earn a big spanking. Of course, I hadn’t remembered any of those tidbits until right this moment.

Of course.

I had also forgotten just how hard his hand could be when he was dead-set determined on doling out a proper punishment. The strength he was putting behind his swats made our little run-in on Aaron’s porch last week seem like a handful of love taps.

“Dammit, Gabriel!” I shrieked, thrashing around on his lap. “You tricked me!” I wiggled and fought, but even as the burning in my ass seemed unbearable, I found that I didn’t really want him to stop. Not yet, anyways.

All those old familiar feelings of shame and regret were rushing in on me. That, combined with my throbbing wrist, soon had my chest tightening in remorse and my eyes burning from the sting of unshed tears. He was right. I should have worn my brace. I was being selfish and stubborn and childish to refuse to put it on, and it felt good to be taken to task.

It felt familiar. It felt right. And being over his knee, getting the tar whooped out of me for not taking care of myself properly like the grown-ass woman I claimed to be? Well, that felt like coming home.

“I did nothing of the sort,” Gabe responded, and I struggled to wrap my brain around his words, to even know what he was responding to.

Oh right, I had accused him of tricking me. Well, of course he was going to argue.

“I warned you repeatedly to wear your brace.” His hand beat a steady tempo across the fleshiest part of my backside, alternating cheeks every two swats. “Don’t think I didn’t see the look of pain in your eyes the second I walked in. Did you even think to take more medicine?” With every word, he only spanked me harder, and it was enough to make me wish he would just shut up.

“It just makes me sleep. I’m not tired!” I protested.

“That’s a valid reason to hold off on the hydrocodone,” Gabe conceded. “But you could have taken ibuprofen at least.”

I wasn’t about to admit that I couldn’t even get the cap off the damn bottle.

I hmphed and tried to buck off his lap. He pulled me in tighter to his body, holding me in place, and that was when his already paddle-hard hand spanked harder still.

Fighting in earnest, I twisted desperately, shoving with all my body to get away from him, until Gabriel abruptly stopped with a sharp hiss.

That sound was such a strangled one and so unexpected that it froze me. Glancing back over my shoulder at him, I was startled to see his eyes squeezed shut and his teeth bared in a grimace.
